It covers all the important concepts without offering confusing advice that’s hard to interpret and gets beginners in trouble. Hold’em Poker requires a critical thinking and some eighth grade math. This book will give you the basics of poker theory that you can build a successful poker career on.
Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play
This is the “bible” of limit games. The definitive book on crushing low limit games. People complain that bad players are hard to beat. They also complain they turn the game into a crapshoot. Neither is correct. With this proper strategy, these kinds of games are the most lucrative (in terms of bets per hour won). SSH, as this book is often referred too, will show you exactly how to take advantage of those players. The concepts in this book are solid and play well in any type of game. If you buy only on poker book, this should be the one.
Weighing the Odds in Hold’em Poker 
Once you have read and start to understand SSH, Weighing the Odds is an excellent follow up. It shows you a different angle on a lot of the concepts in SSH. It also has a terrific analysis of how to counter some of the advanced strategies in poker. The DIPO method of counting outs is worth the price of the book alone. If you would rather not memorize the odds charts from SSH, DIPO provides a quick way to evaluate if it’s correct to continue to “chase” a pot.
The Theory of Poker
This book is also known as TOP. It is a very accurate summation of all the key concepts in all kinds of poker games. Poker is poker, and this book discusses the theory of several popular variations. The strategy in the book is backed up with mathematical examples so you can see why certain plays are correct in certain positions.
